Chinese Calligraphies Auctioned for Veterans Care Fund

To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the liberation of Shanghai, Shanghai International Commodity Auction hosted a special charity auction on July 21st for the Veterans Care Fund operated by the Foundation of Supporting the Army & Giving Preferential Treatment to the Families of Soldiers and Martyrs of Shanghai. The charity auction was initiated by the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Veteran Affairs and the said Foundation. Over 100 guests from across the city participated in the auction, including Mr. ZHOU Taitong, Former Deputy Mayor of Shanghai and Chairman of the Foundation, Mr. HUANG Chong, Director of the Municipal Bureau of Veteran Affairs, and Mr. DAI Peihua, Chairman of Shanghai International Commodity Auction.

Eleven lots went on the block, including 131 scrolls of Chinese calligraphy written by 29 retired generals now living in Shanghai. The auction took place both online and offline. Lot No. 1 started from ¥10,000, and was sold at ¥110,000 after 26 rounds of bidding. Lot No. 6 started from ¥6,000 and its hammer price reached ¥110,000 as well. All eleven lots brought in a total revenue of 1.098 million yuan which was donated to the Foundation of Supporting the Army & Giving Preferential Treatment to the Families of Soldiers and Martyrs of Shanghai. It will be used to compensate the martyrs and support the veterans in trouble.

Mr. HUANG Chong, Director of the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Veteran Affairs, acclaimed the charity auction, saying in the closing remarks that the event fully showed the enthusiasm and warm-heartedness of all walks of life in Shanghai for the people’s army, and it was going to call upon more people and enterprises with goodwill to support the army and help the veterans and their families out of trouble. He believed soldiers and veterans were sure to feel the honor, happiness and a strong sense of fulfillment in Shanghai, a city with a warm temperature.
